The client is a very reputed museum in New York.

Business Requirement

The client was looking for an IT development/solutions partner who can help them to migrate the store site from an earlier version of the software stack to the latest version, including implementing several new business requirements established over a period of time. The old version was not supported anymore by IBM, and client wanted to transition to the latest version before the holiday season.

Challenge

Catalog Data Migration: Came up with an approach to migrate the catalog data (variation product/item) by eliminating the existing redundant level variation product at each item level by associating all the items at each variation product to a single variation parent product into the current system without loosing the product level data at each sub product level from earlier system.

Membership Data Migration

In the earlier system, membership data (data related to promotion/discounts for customer and customer group) was maintained in external tables within commerce database and custom code was written which will calculate the discounts to be applied based on the customer and updates the backend database accordingly.

We came up with an approach where we have utilized the member group functionality and promotions functionality which comes out of box with web sphere commerce and migrated the membership data from external tables to web sphere commerce tables so that web sphere commerce will take care of applying discounts and promotions automatically based on the customer.

Configured and used database migration wizard provided by web sphere commerce 6.0 to migrate the catalog and membership data.

The Solution Approach

;This project an end to end migration of a complete Web Sphere Commerce Suite 5.6.1 based B2C shopping website to Web Sphere Commerce Suite 6.0. This included the migration of database tier, application tier and web server tier along with additional of new features and customization of existing features in the storefront and in the businessprocesses. Our scope of work includes following:
